It was hard for me to choose, equally I’ve met too so many amazing Journeymakers during my travels. But these are the people who stand upwards out the most.
Pedro The Volcano Man
Guatemala is where I met my get-go Journeymaker, Pedro. With my Castilian precisely equally bad equally his English, communication was basic equally he guided us upwards the 9000 human foot Volcano San Pedro on the shores of beautiful Lake Atitlan.
However yous don’t quest to beak the same linguistic communication to brand a novel friend. Pedro was joking closed to amongst us all the agency upwards — stopping to betoken out his favorite flowers, mushrooms, too birds equally nosotros climbed.
When he isn’t growing java along the nutrient rich slopes of the volcano, Pedro guides intrepid travelers to the top, clearing a path through the jungle amongst his trusty machete.
The sentiment from the summit was breathtaking. It’s humbling to know that he hikes this giant volcano every hateful solar daytime to earn a living. Makes yous appreciate how slow the residue of us convey it.
Pedro’s enthusiastic mental attitude nearly sharing his noesis of the local landscape helped brand our volcano run a peril experience extra special.

We shared stories, food, too played music all evening. They explained how they back upwards themselves past times selling homemade crafts to tourists inwards Granada. Other members of the community would popular inwards too bring together us from fourth dimension to time.
The adjacent hateful solar daytime I helped them all educate a vegetable garden.
The generosity of Sorina & her friends volition ever remain amongst me — sharing their crowded cave amongst a consummate stranger precisely because I was curious nearly their lifestyle. It made me desire to exit too provide the favor for someone else.
Thanks to them, my fourth dimension inwards Granada was the highlight of my trip to Spain.

Isaac The Jungle Guide
While traveling through Panama, I teamed upwards amongst a friend to take in the Darien Gap. We hired a local Kuna indigenous guide named Isaac to atomic number 82 us through this mysterious wilderness where no roads exist.
Trekking deep into the rainforest inwards search of rare frogs, birds, too snakes — Isaac used his noesis of the expanse to locate animals we’d never convey spotted on our own.
But the journeying didn’t halt there. Rather than pay for a guesthouse, Isaac invited us to remain amongst him too his family.
Fishing is a major rootage of both nutrient too income for the indigenous people living here. We spent an afternoon on the river hand-line line-fishing inwards the rain, later on grilling our fresh conduct handgrip of for dinner.
Thanks to Isaac’s hospitality too outdoor skills, nosotros received a fascinating glimpse of life inwards Darien that non many people acquire to experience.

Rudy The Ex-Soldier
I get-go met Rudy patch searching for street nutrient belatedly 1 nighttime inwards the metropolis of León, Nicaragua. After ordering a giant chicken empanada amongst rice & beans I sat downwardly to consume alone.
Another client invited me over to bring together him. “No 1 should consume alone” he said. Influenza A virus subtype H5N1 quondam soldier from the Nicaraguan revolution, Rudy was visiting from Grand Duchy of Luxembourg where he lives now.
He told me the odd even out of Dr. Abraham Paguaga, a famous Dr. amongst magic healing abilities. Together nosotros tracked downwardly locals to verify his tale.
Eventually nosotros ran into a pair of elderly sisters who were treated past times the doctor. They invited us inwards for tea to percentage how he healed them both from sickness when no 1 else could.
Thanks to Rudy, I learned something unexpected nearly an enchanting place. He sparked my curiosity too helped add together a layer of intrigue to local history.

Fleming & Ellen The Adventurers
While trekking 10 days across Greenland’s Arctic Circle Trail, I unexpectedly met Fleming & Ellen from Kingdom of Denmark at a remote wilderness cabin 50 miles from civilization.
We chatted for a few hours waiting for the steady pelting exterior to subside.
At seventy years old, they’ve hiked the 100 mile long Arctic Circle Trail half dozen times now. They had also spent a calendar month trekking completely across Greenland’s vast H2O ice cap, pulling their ain nutrient & supplies on sleds…
If that wasn’t plenty to impress, they’ve both hiked to Everest Base Camp too climbed Mont Blanc (Europe’s highest mount at 15,777 ft.). They didn’t fifty-fifty start trekking until their 40’s either!
Before nosotros parted ways, these incredibly inspiring senior citizen adventurers gave me tips for crossing a deep river farther ahead on the trail, too ideas for my adjacent adventure.
Thanks to Fleming & Ellen, I volition never experience likewise old to essay out challenging novel locomote experiences. If they tin give the sack practice it at 70, too so tin give the sack nosotros all.
