Managua, Nicaragua
La Chureca is the largest garbage dump inwards Central America. It’s located on the outskirts of Managua, the upper-case missive of the alphabet metropolis of Nicaragua too covers over 4 foursquare miles (7 sq. km). One one k people alive & plough over off the “City of Trash” every day.
Getting hither was non easy, too traipsing through burning, rotting garbage wasn’t precisely a picnic either. But the hardest role of all was bearing witness to the agency of life these people convey to live.
They are called Churequeros. Their homes are made of trash. They scavenge through the garbage for food. Every twenty-four hours they search for scraps of plastic, cans, too drinking glass to sell for recycling. This is how they brand a living.
There is an simple schoolhouse located on the dump amongst half-dozen classrooms. But in ane trial kids convey graduated, they don’t convey many options. Most kickoff working long hours inwards the landfill every twenty-four hours amongst the residue of the family. The people who alive at La Chureca alive a tough life, just yet they are friendly too proud.
